GRF wins two top awards

GRF won two top awards at this year’s Churches’ Media Conference. Presented at the annual conference in Derbyshire, GRF received awards for programmes broadcast last year on Radio Forth in Edinburgh and on Radio Greenbelt at the Greenbelt Arts Festival in Cheltenham. ‘Peace’, a programme in our new faithdotcom series won an Andrew Cross Award in the Special Programmes category.

The judges descibed faithdotcom which is aimed at younger people who listen to commercial radio, as:“a thoughtful and provocative piece for radio that makes creative use of a tight, witty script interwoven with music and actuality ... This is an excellent example of how radio can play a prophetic role in society - satire and humour are mixed together effectively with hard facts to challenge the listener.”

GRF also won a Commendation in the Thought for the Day category. The series of thoughts had been commissioned by Radio Forth for Christian Aid Week 2002 and explored the theme of ‘Fair Trade for Life’. The judges said the commended programme was: “an example of a witty, oblique and yet very potent message.”

GRF team member Anne Muir also won an Andrew Cross Award in the ‘Television: Festivals’ category for Resolutions, a programme broadcast on BBC Scotland at New Year. This short programme reflected on the year’s news stories and was described by the judges as “an exceptional 5 minute collage ... reminding people of deeper and broader values at Hogmanay.”

Also at this year’s Churches’ Media Conference, GRF Chairman Andrew Barr spoke as part of a major session about the new Communications Bill, and team member Gillian McKinnon was asked to present one of the conference’s ‘Masterclasses’.
