Radio Award for Originality and Innovation

GRF won a special award in the 2001 Christian Broadcasting Council Awards presented at a ceremony at the council's annual conference in Stoke-on-Trent (14/15 September).

Andrew Barr, GRF's chairman, was presented with the John Q. Davis Special Award for Originality and Innovation in Radio Production on behalf of the GRF team. The award was named in memory of John Q. Davis, the founder of the Christian Broadcasting Council, who died last year.

The award was for a series of six 'morning thoughts' for Christian Aid Week which were broadcast on Radio Forth in Edinburgh.

This set of thoughts also won an Andrew Cross Award in June this year for excellence in religious broadcasting.

The judges felt that GRF was a deserving recipient of this first special award for the consistent production of high-quality radio programmes for mainstream radio stations.

Speaking at the ceremony in Stoke, Andrew Barr commented: "The team of volunteers who make up GRF are a talented group of enthusiasts for radio.

"We don't want to own a station or to run anything. We just want to make high quality radio programmes that people want to listen to."
